(Redirected from J.J. Abrams)

J. J. Abrams (Jeffrey Jacob Abrams) was born June 27, 1966 in New York City but soon moved to Los Angeles, where he developed a love for movies. After a decade of making award-winning amateur movies while growing up, he attended Sarah Lawrence College. During his senior year, he partnered with a friend to write the treatment for a movie, which later sold and was made into Taking Care of Business. He went on to write, direct, or produce other films, such as Regarding Henry, Forever Young, and Armageddon. Abrams was hand-picked by Tom Cruise to direct Mission Impossible III.

After success on the big screen, Abrams created Felicity (19982002), a TV series about a young girl at a fictitious New York City college. This show is said to have inspired Alias (20012006)—Abrams wondered what it would be like if Felicity were really a secret agent. In 2004, Abrams created the hit show Lost (2004–current). This show has earned him two Emmy Awards—for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series. He is also the shows executive producer.

In 2006, Abrams series, Alias ended and his new drama Six Degrees premiered on ABC. Upcoming projects include a 2008 Star Trek prequel entitled Star Trek XI. The film features young versions of the characters in the original series. He has also signed on as director of the film Untitled Hunter Scott Project. Abrams will executive produce the upcoming 2008 series Fringe about an FBI agent working with scientists to figure out a series of unexplained phenomena. Before Star Trek hits theatres, the film Cloverfield produced by Abrams and written by Alias writer Drew Goddard, opens in theatres on January 18, 2008.

Personal Life

Abrams is married to Katie McGrath and they have three children, Henry (b. 1998), Grace, (b. 1999) and August (b. 2006)
