It's a Wonderful Life is a 1946 fantasy film directed by Frank Capra and starring based on the short story "The Greatest Gift" written by Philip Van Doren Stern.

Premise

Set shortly after WWII and centers on George Bailey (James Stewart), who attempts suicide on Christmas Eve. His guardian angel appears and grants him the ability to see what his life would have been without him in order to show him how he has made a difference in his community and in the lives of others.
