Isaac Asimov Presents the Great SF Stories 1 (1939) is the first volume in Isaac Asimov Presents The Great SF Stories, a series of short story anthologies which attempt to present the best stories from each year of “The Golden Age” of science fiction. This volume includes twenty stories which were published during the year 1939, each presented with an introduction by editors Martin Greenberg and Isaac Asimov. Published in 1979, the book presents an introduction recounting the major news events of the year, both in the world at large and in the world of science fiction.
Originally published by DAW books as a small paperback, this volume has also been published in hardback form as part of Bonanza Books' Isaac Asimov Presents The Golden Years of Science Fiction: First Series, and as a larger paperback by Dorset Press under the title Isaac Asimov Presents Great Science Fiction Stories of 1939.
