Iris Deactivation Code

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

In the Stargate universe, the Iris Deactivation Code or IDC is a nine-digit number used by SG teams and Earth allies to ensure safe travel to Earth from other planets. The code is sent through an open wormhole using a GDO informing SGC personnel that it is safe to deactivate the iris protecting Earth's stargate.

A unique code is assigned to each SG Team going through the gate and periodically changed for security purposes. Trusted allies such as the Tok'ra and Bra'tac are also granted GDOs and IDCs as identifiers.

Without the code, the iris will only be opened under the orders of the base commander. If a GDO is lost or damaged radio signals can be sent through the gate informing the SGC of a problem. In this case, the party may be directed to travel to another planet where they can be met by SGC personnel.
