The Inhumans are a fictional race of beings who diverged from the human race about 25,000 years ago. They are owned and appear in Marvel Comics. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Fantastic Four #45 (December, 1965), they began as supporting characters in the Fantastic Four. They have since had several limited series of their own.
The Inhumans were developed by an alien race called the Kree, who envisioned them as genetically altered human slaves. When the Kree turned their attention to galactic conquest, they left the Inhumans on Earth to fend for themselves. Now unalterably different than humanity, the aliens eventually built a secret city called Attilan, in an area of the Himalayas they called the “Great Refuge”. Over time, they continued experimenting with their own genetic development, and discovered the Terrigan Mists, which allow an almost random mutation of the Inhuman genetic structure, giving them new physical forms and powers. The Inhumans expose themselves to the mists voluntarily, after much genetic analysis to see if the transformation will be too bizarre or unsafe. Interestingly enough, each transformation is unique, creating an incredibly different look and array of powers across the Inhuman race.

The Inhumans who readers know the best is the royal family, headed by the undisputed ruler of the Inhumans, Black Bolt. Black Bolt has incredible strength and a majestic look, but can never speak, as his voice can destroy mountains. His life mate is Medusa, whose incredible prehensile red hair can stretch and move with accuracy and great tensile strength. There is also Crystal, who can control the four basic elements of nature, earth, water, fire, and air, Gorgon whose hoof-like feet can shake the earth, Triton, who is a scaled water breather with superhuman endurance, and Karnak, who can find and exploit the weak point of any object or structure. Finally, there is the giant canine Lockjaw, whose incredible jaw strength and teleporting abilities proves to be of great use to all Inhumans and their allies.
The Inhumans, in a decisive step to separate themselves from humanity, have moved Attilan to the Blue Area of the moon, an ancient base built by the Kree centuries ago. They share the area with the alien Watcher, whose incredible moon base is used to observe Earth and the story of humanity.
