Inertial dampeners

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Inertial dampeners are a fictional technology often seen in sci fi series involving space travel. Inertial dampeners are used on almost all starships to counter the effects of rapid acceleration/deceleration of a vessel. It does this by sustaining and absorbing the natural inertia of a vessel as it moves through space.

It would be ill advised for a starship to jump to warp speed without inertial dampers, as the rapid acceleration would very likely crush those aboard.
