In The Garden of Iden is the first novel in Kage Baker's Company series. The novel is followed by Sky Coyote. In The Garden of Iden is set in the sixteenth century and centers on a group of immortal cyborgs who appear human. This first novel introduces the Cyborg, Mendoza who was rescued as a child, transformed into a cyborg, and now works for "the company". Though she claims to hate humans, she falls in love and begins to realize the downside of immortality.
