I Married a Witch is a 1942 romantic fantasy directed by René Clair. Veronica Lake stars as witch, Jennifer who, along with her father was burned to death in the 17th century. The two cursed their accusers, the ancestors of Wallace Wooley (Fredric March) that the family's men will always marry the wrong women. Jennifer returns in the twentieth century to continue the curse by giving wallace a love potion on the night before his wedding that will have him love her instead of his fiancee, Estelle (Susan Hayward). Instead, she accidentally drinks the portion herself and falls in love. Things become almost hopelessly complicated when Wallace returns her feeling but must marry Estelle who does not love him in order to become a senator. Also, Jennifer's father disapproves of her love for Wallace.
