A hypergate is an ancient device thought to be created by the Gree, a tentacled species of aliens in the Expanded Universe of Star Wars. Much like stargates, they were a network of hyperspace tunnels, each represented physically with a primitive looking rounded stone arch (much like the appearance of the Guardian of Forever from Star Trek). These were used to travel between cities on a planet as well as to other planets.

The technology was lost when the Gree civilization declined, and even the remnant Gree themselves are unable (or unwilling) to share the technology.
