Hyperdrive (travel)

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

A Hyperdrive is an engine that allows access to a layer of space, known as hyperspace allowing the equipped space craft to travel from one point in space to another at faster than light speeds, shortening the journey significantly. Though the concept is similar to that of wormholes, the presentation is often different. In science fiction, wormholes are rarely created or opened using a ship's engines and are usually presented as a natural phenomena or the result of a stargate or similar technology.

The technology is not related to black holes. One cannot use a black hole to travel this way as the intense gravity of the black hole would crush whatever came that close.
