Hugo Reyes better known as Hurley is a fictional character on the ABC series Lost played by Jorge Garcia. Hurley is the son of David and Carmen Reyes. Jorge is a survivor of crash of Oceanic Flight 815

Before the Crash

Hugo's father left him and his mother when Hugo was young. They'd worked together on a car which his father promised him they'd fix when he returned. He never did and Hurley grew to be overweight. He became severely depressed after an accidental deck collapse he believed he was responsible for because of his weight. Though assured it wasn't his fault as the deck was built only for eight people and was occupied by twenty-three at the time of the accident. As a result of his severe depression, his mother had him committed to the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute. While there, he met a patient, Leonard who kept repeating the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42. He also had an imaginary friend, Dave who convinced him not to go on a diet and to stop taking his medication. His Dr. Dr. Brooks, took a photograph of the two together, which he later showed to Hurley convincing him that Dave was not real.

Following his release from Santa Rosa, he returned to his job at Mr. Clucks. He played the lottery using Leonard's numbers and won several million dollars. After several unfortunate incidents he became convinced the numbers were cursed.
