House of Dark Shadows is a 1970 horror film that brought the 1960s gothic soap opera Dark Shadows to the big screen. Dan Curtis directed the film which centered on the vampire, Barnabas Collins who is released from his coffin by greedy Willie Loomis, seeking out the family jewels. Collins goes on a killing spree and joins the Collins household as a charming cousin from England. When Dr. Julia Hoffman learns his secret she offers a chance for a cure. Meanwhile Barnabas becomes enamored of governess Maggie Evans who reminds him of his lost love Josette du Prés.
