On the series Stargate SG-1, the Holy Grail or Sangraal is a technological device created by the formerly ascended Ancient Merlin to nullify the power of ascended beings, specifically, the Ori. According to Daniel Jackson, "the notion that the grail was a cup or chalice particularly the one used by Christ at the last supper was...a late addition to the myth...or in the case Von Eschenbach in outer Middle East influenced chroniclers as a stone that fell from the Heavens..." Also called the Bloodstone, it is a sacred and powerful stone once owned by Merlin, and possibly the source of his anti-Ori weapon.

Arthur left from Camelot to look for it. He went to three planets: Castiana (Taoth Vaclarush), Sahal (Valos Cor), and Vagonbrei (Verus Gen Bree) Camelot. Osric helped SG-1 find the cave in which Morgan hid the Sangreal. Morgan also placed many safe guards on the planet (such as cloaking the planet), so that the Sangreal could not be destroyed from orbit. The Parchment of Virtues will guide only the most virtuous of knights. One must demonstrate prudence, charity, kindness, wisdom, and faith to reach the Sangreal, and to ultimately obtain it one must “speak the guardian's name" ("The Quest, Part 2").
Merlin shifted his research on the device into another dimension to prevent the other ascended beings from learning about it. The "others" sent Morgan Le Fay to watch him in order to maintain their rules of non interference.
Merlin proved successful in creating the device but it was later destroyed by Morgan. Having ultimately come around to Merlin's way of thinking, Morgan placed Merlin in stasis on a planet whose address contains symbols in common with Castiana, Sahal, and Vagonbrei. Merlin's chamber was accessible only by completing a series of trials designed to prove strength of mind and character ("The Quest, Part 1"). Many people tried and failed to complete the trials before SG-1, accompanied by Adria and Baal managed to get through the trials, fight off the dragon, and access the chamber. ("The Quest, Part 2").
Once in the chamber, they awakened Merlin who began recreating the device but was forced to transfer his knowledge before his death to Daniel Jackson who brought the device to near completion before being stopped by Adria. Vala Mal Doran, on Daniel's instructions later completed the assembly and activated it before it was sent through to the Ori galaxy on board an Ori ship. It is unclear whether the device was successful in ending Ori control, as their followers are still devoted to the conversion or destruction of all those in the Milky Way who refuse to worship the Ori.
