<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Holography is a photographic technique that enables the creation of a three-dimensional image. The process was invented in 1947 by Hungarian scientist Dennis Gabor. Holographic techniques may also be used to process, store, and retrieve information.

Science Fiction

Holograms, as referred to in science fiction, typically refer to Volumetric Displays, which are graphical display devices that enable the representation of an object in 3 dimensions. Holograms are science fiction staples, most memorably represented in the holodecks of Star Trek: The Next Generation and its sequels.
