Ancient DNA resequencing machine used by Nirrti in her attempts to create a Hok'taur
Hok'taur is a Goa'uld term for advanced human; "hok" meaning advanced, and "taur" a shortened version of Tau'ri, or humans. Hok'taur is understood to mean humans with extrasensory capabilities such as telepathy, telekinesis, or clairvoyance. The Goa'uld Nirrti's goal was to create such a human—planned for use as a host for herself—by experimenting with their genes. She had some success with the people of Hanka but not without consequence. Her experiments resulted in the development of special abilities, but her subjects also became severely ill. She continued to experiment on another planet after discovering an Ancient DNA Resequencer. Once again, her subjects gained new abilities but also suffered severe mutations.
It is possible the idea of a Hok'taur originates with the Ancients, who were very advanced humans who displayed powers of healing and other extrasensory abilities.
