Plot

Dr. Mckay discovers an experimental Ancient technology which functions as a personal shield, and begins to use it only to discover he doesn't know how to turn it off, preventing him from eating or drinking! He eventually learns to disable it whille under extreme stress from a combination of hunger and danger.

The expedition team discovers a dangerous alien entity accidentally released from a containment vessel by Halling's son, Jinto, while playing "Hide and Seek" with playmate Wex. Jinto goes missing and a search is organized to locate him.

The entity is found to be feeding from power sources in the city and therefore poses a danger to all city residents. The team discovers the original containment device which the entity escaped from, but are uanble to lure it back into the vessel. A plan is devised to use a naquadah generator to lure the entity into going to an uninhabited planet through the stargate. Hesitant to leave, the entity remains at the threshold of the gate until McKay activates his personal shield and enters the entity to push the generator through the gate, which the entity finally follows.

Technology

Discovered in this episode are the personal shield device and the matter transporters located throughout the city which also function as elevators between the levels.
