Hercules is the Roman name of the mythical Greek hero, Heracles. Hercules is the son of the Greek god Zeus and the mortal woman Alcmena. Zeus' wife, Hera became jealous of the child and sent snakes to kill him while he lay in his crib. Hercules displayed the great strength he'd become known for, by strangling both serpents.
The myth of Hercules has remained popular for centuries and he has been immortalized in several films and television series, perhaps most memorably in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, a syndicated television series in which Hercules was portrayed by Kevin Sorbo. He has also appeared as a supporting character in Marvel Comics Thor and The Avengers, as well as DC Comics Wonder Woman series.
