Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone also known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the 2001 film based on the best selling J.K. Rowling novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The film is the first in the series and is followed by five films, each based on a novel in the book series. The film proved to be one of the all-time highest grossing films earning over $976 million USD worldwide.

Synopsis

Harry Potter is an average 11-year-old boy who has lived with the Dursley family ever since his parents died in a car crash. On his 12th birthday, a giant man named Rubeus Hagrid hands him a letter telling him that he has been accepted as a student at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry learns that his parents were wizards and were killed by an evil wizard, Voldemort, a truth that was hidden from him all these years.
