Harold "Harry" Maybourne is a fictional character on the series Stargate SG-1 portrayed by Tom McBeath. Maybourne was a colonel in United States Air Force with knowledge of the Stargate program. Maybourne worked for an intelligence agency whose goals often ran counter to those of Stargate Command personnel.

Spoiler Warning: Plot details and/or information about the ending follow. If you wish to enjoy the work first, stop reading here and return at another time.

On his first visit to the SGC Maybourne was tasked with transporting recently rescued Tollan refugees to a new facility with the intention of forcing them to reveal the secrets of their technology. Fortunately, with the help of Daniel Jackson and the rest of SG-1, he was thwarted and the Tollan were rescued by The Nox ("Enigma").

His second visit, the next year once again did not bode well for yet another alien. When Teal'c became infected by the sting of an alien insect, Maybourne was determined to see him in a lab for study hoping to find a military use for Teal'c's deadly illness with no regard to his survival. ("Bane")

These incidents did not endear Maybourne to the SGC. However, Samantha Carter was forced to depend on him to help rescue the SGC from aliens who'd taken over the base. ("Foothold")Despite this rare positive mark on his record he would later be exposed as a leader among the rogue NID, a group who stole advance technologies from Earth enemies and allies alike. Jack O'Neill managed to infiltrate the organization and several members were arrested and charged with treason. Maybourne managed to escape the US before he could be arrested. ("Shades of Grey ")

Maybourne then his sold his services and experience to Russia to help them with their Stargate program. In addition to his knowledge, he gave them top secret personnel files and mission reports from the Stargate Command. When the Russian program ran into a major problem, they were forced to call on SG-1 for help. He was captured by SG-1, and returned to the United States where he was convicted of treason and sentenced to death. ("Watergate")

O'Neill had Maybourne temporarily released for his help in getting General George Hammond reinstated after he was blackmailed into retiring by Rogue NID members associated with then Senator, Robert Kinsey ("Chain Reaction").. He again managed to escape before he could be returned to prison. Although a fugitive, Maybourne provided aid to O'Neill on other occasions over the next two years and the two developed a grudging respect for each other.

When Maybourne tired of life on the run he turned to SG-1 for help. He managed to convince them that his help was required on a mission to find an Ancient cache of weapons and technology. Instead he led them to a planet reputed to be an alien utopia where he could spend the rest of his days. He transported himself to the planet's moons with a technological device, trapping himself an O'Neill on a world where his Utopia turned out to be nothing but ruins of a civilization that self destructed after ingesting a plant that caused severe paranoia. Maybourne fell victim to the same plant but the two were rescued before either could kill the other ("Paradise Lost").

After the incident, Jack decided not to turn him over to be imprisoned again and with the help of the Tok'ra, Maybourne was relocated to a planet where he could spend the rest of his life in peace. Maybourne did not go quietly however. He was discovered by SG-1 on a planet where he had been elevated to King. Despite his time as royalty, Maybourne genuinely cared about the planet's people. He translated Ancient prophecies of the future and also brought modern advancements such as a legal code, irrigation system among other advancements. He also married, to several wives. ("It's Good to be King").
