Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Kate Paltrow (b. September 27, 1972, Los Angeles, California) is an Academy Award-winning American actress born to actress Blythe Danner and director Bruce Paltrow. Paltrow won an Academy Award for her performance in Shakespeare in Love and has also appeared in a few genre productions.

Paltrow began studying acting with her parents as a child and studied at the exclusive Spence School in Manhattan. She studied anthropology at the University of California before leaving to pursue acting. She made her film debut in the movie Shout in 1991 and followed up with Hook which starred Robin Williams and Julia Roberts. She made her mark as a con artist in Flesh and Bone and also appeared in Jefferson in Paris and Higher Learning. In 1994, she appeared alongside Brad Pitt in the serial killer drama Se7en. Her relationship with Pitt overshadowed her performance. She followed up with roles in Moonlight and Valentino, The Pallbearer and Emma.

Paltrow and Pitt split in 1997 and she gained greater attention in starring roles in Sliding Doors, Great Expectations, loosely based on the Charles Dickens novel and the thriller, Hush. Following her 1999 Oscar win for Shakespeare in Love she appeared in The Talented Mr. Ripley alongside Matt Damon. She also appeared in her father's final film, Duets. Bruce Paltrow died in 2002 from complications from throat cancer.

Paltrow's other notable work includes The Royal Tenenbaums featuring a cast of brilliant actors including Gene Hackman, Anjelica Houston and Ben Stiller. She has also appeared in the romantic fantasy, Shallow Hal, Austin Powers in Goldmember with Mike Myers, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow alongside Jude Law and Angelina Jolie, Proof, Running with Scissors and The Good Night. directed by her brother Jake Paltrow.

In 2008, Paltrow will appear in Iron Man with Robert Downey Jr. as Virginia 'Pepper' Potts.

Personal Life

Paltrow is married to Coldplay front man Chris Martin and the couple has two children, Apple and Moses. She previously had high profile relationships with former fiancee Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck.
