In Greek mythology, a Gorgon is a female monster so horrifying, her face turns anyone who sees it to stone. There were three known Gorgons, Euryale, Sthenno, and Medusa. Medusa is the most famous and only mortal of the three daughters of Phorcys and Ceto.
Gorgons are covered with scales and have hair made of living snakes, brass hands, fangs and a beard. They are said to live near the ocean and guard the entrance to the underworld.
