Goa'uld technology

From SCIFIPEDIA

On the series Stargate SG-1 the goa'uld are a technologically advanced parasitic race. They acquired their advanced technologies including hyperdrive and life extending sarcophagi by scavenging and modifying technologies created by other races including and most particularly, that of the Ancients. Almost all Goa'uld technology is dependent on Naquadah as a power source. The mineral exists in the blood stream of most Goa'uld and is required for the operation of several of their technological devices particularly those used for torture such as the ribbon device.

Contents

Ships

Al'kesh

See main article

An Al'kesh is a Goa'uld ship designed for mid-range bombardment.

Death Glider

See main article

Two-seated Goa'uld fighter interceptor vessel designed in the shape of a bird of Prey. Designed for battle against similar ships or quick attack, the ship has no hyperdrive engines. Primary weapon are two cannons on each wing

Ha'tak

See main article

Goa'uld mother ship heavily armed with good shields. Hatak's transport thousands of Jaffa warriors and entire wings of death gliders. Ha'tak's are the choice transport of the System Lords. Ha'tak's are constructed in a floating anti-gravity dry dock in close proximity to a source of naquadah. Whether this is true for all Goa'uld vessels is unknown. ("Orpheus")

Needle Threader

A variation on the Death Glider, the needle threader was designed by Apophis to fly through the Stargate. The ship requires superior piloting skills and proved too difficult to fly. The technology was eventually abandoned.

Tel'tak

Cargo vessel and occasionally referred to as a scout ship. Tel'taks are quite common Goa'uld craft used also

Troop Transport

A large armored ship designed to transport Jaffa armies to the battlefield. The ship has been seen in the employ of Anubis. by the Tok'ra

Weapons

Zat'nik'tel
Zat'nik'tel

All lethal Goa'uld weaponry appears to have been designed using similar principles. Power output varies significantly.

Intar

An intar is a non-lethal weapon that fires red energy projectiles able to stun without causing permanent damage. The devices were first seen being used by human warriors training to infiltrate Earth. ("Rules of Engagement")

Pain Stick

A device of torture this weapon has no other purpose. When hit by the stick, the victim is caused extreme pain and a bright light is emitted from the eyes and mouth. Extended use will eventually kill.

Shock grenade

non-lethal grenade designed to stun an incapacitate using bright light and sound.

Staff cannon

Larger and more powerful variation of the hand-held staff weapon commonly used by Jaffa. It is reasonable to assume that like the staff weapon, it is powered by a cell of liquid naquadah. Staff Cannon's are stationary emplacements.

Staff weapon

The preferred weapon of Jaffa warriors, staff weapons are long hand-held weapons that double as a fighting staff in close battle. Powered by a cell of liquid naquadah the weapon can kill on one shot. Though it is deadly it is not very accurate at long distances and lacks some of the destructive force of Earth-made projectiles.

Zat'nik'tel

See main article

Small hand-held device, the "zat gun" is the favored Goa'uld weapon of Stargate command. The device fires a burst of blue energy which causes extreme pain and often renders its victim unconsious .However, a second shot within a short period will kill most subjects. A third burst of energy disintegrates completely.

Shields

Goa'uld Ha'tak's and Tel'tak's possess force field technology that help protect the vessel against attack. The technology could not withstand an attack by a Tollan ion cannon however, Anubis, using Ancient knowledge was able to devise upgraded shields that could withstand almost any attack except that of an Ancient drone weapon.

The Goa'uld also developed personal shields, an important advancement as most shielding technology requires significant power. They operate on the same principles as larger shield devices but are not designed to stop slow-moving objects such as rocks or thrown knives. They are, however, able to deflect bullets and energy weapons fire.

Miscellaneous

Aging nanocytes

Devised by the Goa'uld Pelops and used to experiment on humans, these nanotechnological bots existed withing the blood streams of humans on the planet Argos. The nanocytes served the purpose of rapidly aging the Argosians giving them a lifespan of one hundred days. The purpose of the experiment was to study human evolution in the hopes of creating an advanced human with abilities that would grant a goa'uld who took the human as host more power. The nanoytes were activated by a radiation field with a range limited to the town surrounding the Stargate. ("Brief Candle")

Cloaking technology

The source of Goa'uld cloaking technology is unknown but such devices have been used on small Goa'uld vessels such as Tel'taks. Nirrti developed technology small enough to fit on a belt allowing a person to become invisible. Apophis later develped the ability to cloak an entire fleet of Ha'taks.

Healing device

healing device
healing device

A hand-held device used by the Goa'uld and Tok'ra to heal a person' injuries. Though much less powerful than a sarcophagus, the device is handy for haling injuries from weapons fire and broken bones.

Vocuum - Communication device

A long-range visual communication device in the shape of a metal ball is the choice means of communication over long distances for the Goa'uld. The device ranges in sizes from a hand-held ball to a significantly larger device used for public addresses. The larger device utilizes anti-gravity technology to hover high above a crowd.

Ribbon device

See main article

A device of torture, the metal glove-like technology channels energy through amplification crystals. The user must have naquadah in their blood stream in order to operate the technology which uses thought control and emotions as a means of operation. The device is used almost exclusively by Goa'uld system lords as it serves little practical purpose. The technology can be used to torture, kill, deflect

Ring Transporter

See main article

Not a true Goa'uld technology, the Goa'uld nevertheless incorporated the transporter technology stolen from the Ancients into their ships. The large ring shaped device is able to transmit a matter stream over short distances such as between a planet and a ship in orbit. When activated five rings appear and transport the person or object within them.

Sarcophagus

See main article

The sarcophagus is another technology devised using Ancient technology. Using the same energy of Ancient healing devices and shaped like an Egyptian coffin, the sarcophagus is capable of healing diseases and extending life by thousands of years. Extended and repeated use of the technology has a narcotic effect and alters the psychology of the users. Repeat users are said to lose their souls. The technology is even able to reanimate the recently deceased.

Stasis Jar

Canopic jar used by the Goa'uld to keep a symbiote alive at a slow metabolic rate for thousands of years. The jars contain fluid with a sedative and have a small naquadah-based power source. A stasis jar kept the Goa'uld Osiris alive for over 5,000 years.
