On the reimagined series Battlestar Galactica, the Gideon is one of the vessels in the colonial fleet heading to earth under the protection of the Battlestar Galactica.

The most notable event on this ship was the Gideon massacre.

Under the orders of Colonel Tigh who was temporarily in command of the fleet after the failed assassination of William Adama by Boomer in series 1 episode 'Kobols Last Gleaming, Part 2', armed soldiers were sent to the Gideon to retrieve resources in short supply that the captain refused to give up.

Shots were fired into the crowd by accident and a number of civilians were wounded or killed in the incident. Soldiers involved in the incident claimed the violence broke out when civilians began throwing coffee.
