Ghost Whisperer is a 2005 television series starring Jennifer Love Hewitt as Melinda Gordon, a newly wed, young antique shop owner who sees and communicates with earthbound spirits. The ghosts hang on to their former lives because they have unfinished business that prevents them moving forward. Some are drawn to Melinda believing she can help them and she feels compelled to do what she can to finish whatever business they've left incomplete. The series was inspired by the work of medium James Van Praagh and the life of of Mary Ann Winkowski. The series premiered on September 23, 2005. Ghost Whisperer is currently in its third season and airs on CBS.

Aisha Tyler starred as Melinda's best friend, and coworker, Andrea Moreno, until a plane crash in their picturesque town resulted in her death. Despite not wanting to lose her, Melinda was forced to guide her on the right path allowing them both to accept her death. Melinda now has a new friend in Delia Banks, played by Camryn Manheim. Not wanting to draw her into her strange world, Melinda keeps her gift from her. Melinda has the support of her husband, Jim Clancy, played by David Conrad.
