George Hosato Takei (b. April 20, 1937) is an American actor and writer of Japanese parentage. He is best known in the role of Lt. Hikaru Sulu on Star Trek.
Probaly one of his best-known film roles, outside of Star Trek, is as Capt. Nim a South Vietnamese Special Forces officer in The Green Berets.
In 1973 he ran for the Los Angeles City Council. Although he lost by a small margin, the mayor appointed him to the board of directors of the Southern California Rapid Transit District, where he served until 1984 & contributed to plans for the subway. It was during this period he co-wrote "Mirror Friend, Mirror Foe."
In the 2000s, he appeared on the hit superhero series, Heroes.
