George Melford (February 19, 1877 – April 25, 1961) American director who, after starting his career as an actor in 1909, turned to directing two years later. Although his best-known film is probably The Sheik (1921), he also directed the Spanish-language Dracula (1931) on the same Universal sets as Tod Browning’s version. In the 1950s he returned to acting in several Biblical epics.
