Gattaca is a 1997 film written and directed by Andrew Niccol. It concerns a society driven by the liberal use of eugenics. DNA is analyzed to determine an individual's appropriate place in society. Naturally, the upper middle class and wealthy parents who could afford to design their children for the best genetic traits are granted the best opportunities. While genetic discrimination is against the law, its practice is nevertheless common. Individuals prone to disease are granted only the most menial of jobs.
The word "Gattaca" is created from the abbreviations for DNA nucleotide bases Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, and Guanine. The sequence GATTACA is a common one in the human genome.

Destined to die at 30, his biggest dream is to travel in space. Unfortunately his genetic heritage makes this an impossibility. He takes on the identity of an athlete, Jerome Eugene Morrow (Jude Law), crippled in an accident) and becomes a success in the Gattaca corporation. He is eventually selected to fulfill his dream of traveling to Pluto but first he must elude the police as they search for Vincent in connection to the murder of the mission director.

It's usually best to give a very general overview to a story first, then plot details. When including the plot or essential details in your article (which could ruin the pleasure of discovery for some readers), it is important to include the spoiler tag before any give-away material.
