Cheryl Gates McFadden (b. March 2, 1949) is an American actor and choreographer born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. She is best known for her portrayal of Dr. Beverly Crusher on the series Star Trek: The Next Generation and related films. McFadden attended Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts where she earned her B.A. in Theater Arts in 1970. McFadden also served on the theater faculties of theater arts programs at New York University Graduate School of the Arts, Brandeis University and the University of Pittsburgh.
Career
Prior to her run on the The Next Generation, McFadden worked as a choreographer on the films The Dark Crystal, Dreamchild and Labyrinth. In her work as a choreographer she is credited as "Cheryl McFadden". Early acting roles include appearances in The Wizard, All My children, The Hunt for Red October and Taking Care of Business.
McFadden was cast as Dr. Beverly Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987. She left the series in the second season and was replaced by Diana Muldaur who played Dr. Katherine Pulaski. Pulaski left the series when her character proved an unpopular addition and McFadden returned and resumed her role for season three onward. She directed the episode "Genesis" and also choreographed a dance routine in "Data's Day". McFadden also appeared in Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Nemesis. Other roles include guest appearances on Part of Five, Mad About You, Marker, The Practice and The Handler.
Personal Life
McFadden is married to John Talbot and the couple have a son. Brent Spiner is her son's godfather. She maintains friendships with her TNG costars and currently divides her time between Los Angeles and France.
