In the Star Trek universe, the Gamma quadrant is a region of the Milky Way galaxy that consists of one quarter of the galaxy. Its boundaries are defined by an imaginary axis with its center on the galactic core, dividing it into four equal portions. At its closest point to Earth, the Gamma quadrant is 30,000 light years away. This distance was significantly shortened by the discovery of a wormhole near the Bajoran system. The wormhole links the alpha quadrant to the Idran system in the Gamma quadrant.
