When Murdock stumbles onto America's secret time travel project, Operation Retrograde, he recruits Travis Fox, an Apache Indian, as a guide to the ways of Fox's ancestors as they travel into the past, only to end up in the farthest reaches of interstellar space.

Norton updated both Time Traders and its sequel, Galactic Derelict, for a two-in-one mass market paperback release by Baen Books in 2001.
