Lt. Felix Gaeta (played by Alessandro Juliani), on The SCI FI Channel TV series Battlestar Galactica, is Senior Officer of the Watch in the Galactica CIC. As tactical officer, he monitors the long-range sensors in case of Cylon attack and serves as Adama's "jack of all trades." Gaeta is notable for his efficiency, attention to detail and reliability as well as his idealism. Gaeta also oversees the ship's FTL systems which includes calculating FTL jumps. He also manges the ship's computer systems. Gaeta served under Adama on board the Battlestar Valkyrie

History

Gaeta studied biogenetics in college and joined the military to pay for his education. As a result of his studies, he was chosen to assist Dr. Gaius Baltar in his attempt to create a Cylon detector. Despite Baltar's strange behavior, Gaeta came to like him. When Shelly Godfrey visited Galactica to expose Baltar as a traitor, Gaeta worked on the photo still from a security camera and eventually discovered the image was faked. Despite the fact that the forgery was designed to be easily discovered as a fake, Gaeta never followed up on the idea.

When Adama was shot by Boomer, in the chaos, Gaeta forgot to update the fleet with new jump coordinates. As a result, Galactica became separated from the fleet. It was Gaeta, however, who found the solution. His idea to network four computers to reduce the calculation time to minutes rather than hours enabled Galactica and the fleet to be reunited.

Unfortunately the networked computers enabled the Cylons to plant a virus in the ship's computers, and Gaeta worked hard to eradicate it. Though he initially thought the virus had been eliminated, it returned as a logic bomb that very nearly disabled the ship. Gaeta's frustration over the situation caused the normally respectful and reserved officer to snap at Tigh when the XO demanded he fix the problem. It was only with the aid of the Cylon captive Sharon that the problem was solved and turned into a victory for colonial forces when she turned the virus around on the Cylons, disabling their ships.

Following the discovery of New Caprica and the presidential elections, Gaeta was quick to realize that Colonel Saul Tigh and Anastasia Dualla among others attempted to rig the elections to achieve a result in Laura Roslin's favor. Roslin, convinced by Adama, decided to cede the presidency to Baltar and Gaeta served as his aide throughout the settlement and occupation of New Caprica. Unknown to his fellow officers, he also served as a spy for the resistance movement, secretly providing information on the New Caprica Police and other security matters.

Gaeta was believed to be a traitor to humanity and once on board Galactica he faced justice and execution by a secret tribunal known as "The Circle" for collaborating with Cylons. He was sentenced to death by exposure to space. Kara Thrace, a member of the Circle, taunted and dared him to provide evidence of his innocence. Gaeta revealed what he'd done for the resistance and Galen Tyrol confirmed that Gaeta was, in fact, their informant whose help enabled the rescue of the New Capricans by Galactica. Gaeta was freed and returned to duty.
