The GDO is the authentication device used to verify the identity of a person dialing a stargate with an iris. A secret identifying code is typed into the GDO, which is generally worn on the left forearm. The GDO then sends the Iris Deactivation Code (IDC) through the stargate by radio. If the code is accepted, the iris is opened permitting safe passage through the stargate.
GDO is an abbreviation for Garage Door Opener, which was the nickname for the device upon it's introduction.

It's usually best to give a very general overview to a story first, then plot details. When including the plot or essential details in your article (which could ruin the pleasure of discovery for some readers), it is important to include the spoiler tag before any give-away material.
