Freddie Francis (b.December 22, 1917 – March 17, 2007) Academy Award-winning British cinematographer (Sons and Lovers (1960), Glory (1989), etc.) who never managed to bring the same skills to directing Hammer’s Frankenstein and Dracula series (The Evil of Frankenstein (1964), Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968)) or his anthology films for Amicus (Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (1964), Tales from the Crypt (1972)). He also directed The Legend of the Werewolf (1974) and The Ghoul (1975) for Tyburn Films, run by his son Kevin.
