Fortean Phenomena are unexplained events.
The term "Fortean" is used in honor of Charles Fort, a 20th century researcher and author of paranormal books.
While Fort reported on a wide variety of anomalies, there are certain features that tend to tie these events together.
Fort's sources tended to be fairly objective. Generally, a Fortean event appears to be physical. An average person would be able to observe the event or its effects: it would not require special psychic or spiritual abilities.
The archetypical Fortean event is fish (or frogs) falling from the sky. Anyone who happened to be there would presumably see the fish fall, and the fish are often available for observation afterwards.
Forteans are usually content to report the event. Since Fort suggested in his books that everything blends into everything else, explanations (which usually eliminate some things in favor of other things) are not the point.
Fort did discuss parapsychology, UFOs, and cryptozoology, but those topics are often discussed separately.
