Forbidden Planet (1956) was directed by Fred M. Wilcox, and written by Irving Block and Allen Adler. Based on Shakespeare's play The Tempest, this classic 1950s science fiction movie introduced ideas that would become widespread years later; for example, in the TV series Star Trek.
The movie stars Leslie Nielsen (Naked Gun) as the romantic lead, a starship captain. It introduces the concept of a planetary federation—the "United Planets," and uses the dynamic of interactions among the captain, first officer, and ship's doctor, which became the pivotal relationship in the Star Trek series ten years later.
Another first for Forbidden Planet is the appearance of Robbie the Robot.
Principal Cast
Leslie Nielson as Commander John J. Adams

Once there, they find that all of the expedition is dead, save for Dr. Morbius and his daughter, Altaira. Morbius has discovered the remains of a highly advanced civilization known as the Krell. The Krell destroyed themselves by unleashing monsters from the depths of their own minds. It's usually best to give a very general overview to a story first, then plot details. When including the plot or essential details in your article (which could ruin the pleasure of discovery for some readers), it is important to include the spoiler tag before any give-away material.
