Fight or Flight is episode 5 of Heroes season 2. Kristen Bell makes her first appearance as series regular, Elle. The story of Claire Bennet, Sylar, Maya and Alejandro are not told in this episode.

Plot
Matt & Nathan Petrelli
With Molly running a fever and still in a coma, Mohinder encourages Matt to visit Philadelphia and find his father, Maury as he may be able to help Molly. Nathan insists on joining him and the two find the apartment indicated by Molly. Inside they find a terrified man wielding a shot gun who claims he will be the next to be murdered as he has an image just like the one received by Kaito and Angela.
Maury claims he has something to show Matt but instead traps both men inside terrifying mental illusions. Matt sees himself in prison and sees Janice holding a baby claiming Matt walked out on his son just like his father did to him. Nathan is faced with a vision of a devastated New York City seen from the top of the Deveaux building. Matt begins to fight a prison guard in his dream but it is actually Nathan who believes he is fighting a burnt version of himself. Matt soon realizes what is happening and is somehow able to project his own thoughts to Nathan, causing him to snap out of the vision. Maury is long gone but Matt discovers an image that suggest Bob is the next on the list to be targeted.
Mohinder Suresh – New York City
When Matt leaves, Mohinder calls Noah Bennet (in the Ukraine with The Haitian) and tells him he is thinking of taking Molly in to the company. Bennet warns against it but Mohinder is determined to save her and brings her into see Bob. While Molly is tended to Bob gives Mohinder a taser and the task to find and bring in a girl with abilities. Niki manages to escape her confinement and attacks Bob but Mohinder's taser brings her down and she is returned to the hospital. Though he offers his help in freeing her, she insists she's there of her own volition to get help.
Micah Sanders & Monica Dawson – New Orleans
Monica is questioned by police about the identity of the attempted robber she brought down. Though the officer has a picture, she refuses to identify him for fear of reprisal. When she returns home, she finds Micah playing the piano and unconsciously imitates his motions. Micah suggests his 9th Wonders! comic explains what is happening to her. She has muscle mimicry, essentially, she's a copy cat. He shows her his own unusual abilities by willing a television on and off and suggests they test her own.
While watching the movie Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Monica easily imitates the complicated fighting motions. Later, she and Micah visit a playground where she decides to try something she's never been very good at. After watching some children play double dutch, she joins in and performs some of the more complicated moves. Sometime later a late visitor knocks on her door, it's Mohinder and he offers to answer her questions about her abilities.
Ando Masahashi – Tokyo
Ando continues reading through Hiro's messages from the past. Some of the scrolls have degraded and he turns to the Museum of Cultural History expert, Tatsuya Atsumi, for help making the text clearer. Hiro tells how history is back on track. He has been working with Kensei and Yaeko completing Kensei's legendary tasks as Yaeko records them on the legendary Kensei tapestries. Kensei and Yaeko are falling in love and the trio are on to their final task to face off against Whitebeard's army. They approach a ridge overlooking the valley and witness the truly vast army. The rest of the scroll is indecipherable however, and Ando is left hanging, wondering how the story will end.
Peter Petrelli – Cork, Ireland
As Caitlin and Peter grow closer, someone is after Peter. A woman, Elle is searching for him at the docks. She comes across Will who directs her to Rock's Pub. Having heard that someone is looking for Peter, Ricky sends him to stay at Caitlin's flat. At the flat Caitlin encourages him to open the box and he does. He finds his passport and a ticket from New York to Montreal as well as a photo of him and Nathan whom he doesn't recognize. Peter is disappointed at the lack of insight from the box' contents.
Frustrated, he unexpectedly discovers yet another hidden ability. A blank canvas draws him with a shifting image and he goes to work suing Caitlin's paints to paint a canvas. Unable to snap him out of it, Caitlin watches, unnerved. Peter eventually snaps out of his fugue unaware of what he'd done. The painting shows a Cathedral, street names in French and two shadowy figures in the foreground that appear to be him and Caitlin in a city she theorizes may be Montreal.
When Elle comes looking for Ricky at the pub, he denies knowing Peter. She believes he's lying however and kills him using her powers, completely burning his body. She is later seen talking to a man on her cell phone who orders her to stop her assignment and return to company headquarters. She refers to the man as "Daddy".
A phone call from her father, leads Peter and Caitlin to the scene. Caitlin is extremely distraught over the death of her brother. Peter, realizing that the search for him, has led to this, states that he can't hide anymore.
