Famke Janssen

Famke Beumer Janssen (b. November 5, 1965 in Amstelveen, Netherlands) is a Dutch actress and former model best known for her roles as Jean Grey in X-Men films and Ava More, a transsexual on the FX series, Nip/Tuck.

Janssen began her modeling career in the mid 1980s, moving to New York and signing with Elite Model Management. She walked the runways for Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Victoria's secret. Janssen also studied literature and writing at Columbia University in New York. She later moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

Her first role was in the film Fathers & Sons. Other early roles include guest spots on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Melrose Place, and The Untouchables. She also starred Lord of Illusions before landing her breakout role in GoldenEye as Xenia Onatopp, James Bond's nemesis.

Following her success in bond, Janssen appeared in The Gingerbread Man with Kenneth Brannagh, Deep Rising with Treat Williams, The Faculty, with Clea DuVall and Salma Hayek, House on Haunted Hill with Taye Diggs and Geoffrey Rush and Love & Sex playing lead character Kate Wells.

In 2000, she was cast in X-Men as the telekinetic and telepathic mutant, Jean Grey she also appeared in the film's sequels X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand. Between X-Men films, she guest starred on Ally McBeal, and appeared in Don't Say a Word with Michael Douglas. In 2004 she played the manipulative life coach, Ava Moore on the hit FX series Nip/Tuck.

Upcoming roles include The Possibility of Fireflies and 100 Feet.

Personal Life

In 1995, Janssen married Tod Culpan Williams. They divorced in 2000. She has two sisters, Antoinette and Marjolen Beumer. Both sisters took their mother's maiden name after their parents' divorce. Janssen, however, kept her father's name. She is fluent in Dutch, English, German, and French and currently lives in New York City.
