The Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA, is a 1966 United States law giving citizens the right to view certain previously classified documents.

It has been used by ufologists and other people interested in governmental interaction with reports of UFOs and paranormal phenomena.

The law has many exemptions, and agencies have been sued that they are withholding complete documents are blocking out parts of documents are grounds not covered by the law.
