Ewan McGregor

Ewan Gordon McGregor (b. March 31, 1971 is a Scottish actor born in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland, UK. McGregor is best known to genre fans for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the late 20th and early 21st century Star Wars prequels. Encouraged by his parents to pursue acting, he left the Crieff and Morrison Academy to join the Perth Repertory Theatre. He studied drama at Kircaldy in five before enrolling at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He studied there for three years alongside noted British actors Daniel Craig and Alistair McGowan. he left the school before graduating to take on the role of Mick Hopper in the 1993 miniseries Lipstick on Your Collar.

He began to gain notice when he appeared in Shallow Grave. He followed up with The Pillow Book and the 1996 film Trainspotting which brought him international attention. In 1996 he appeared in Emma alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and made his first American TV appearance guest starring on Tales from the Crypt. in 1997, he starred opposite Cameron Diaz in A Life Less Ordinary.

McGregor's first notable genre role came in the 1999 film, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace as Obi-Wan Kenobi. He appeared in several small films before taking on the role of Christian in the hit musical film Moulin Rouge!. He displayed his singing talents opposite Nicole Kidman in the Academy Award nominated film.

His next role couldn't have been more different. He starred in the war drama Black Hawk Down and appeared in his second Star Wars film Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. He took another musical turn in the romantic comedy Down With Love alongside Renée Zellweger and followed up with Young Adam and the Tim Burton fantasy Big Fish. In 2005 he appeared in several genre features. He lent his voice to the animated films Robots and Valiant and appeared in the third Star Wars film Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. He also starred in the scifi thriller The Island alongside Scarlett Johansson.

He took a break from fantastic films to appear in Stay, Stormbreaker, and Scenes of a Sexual Nature. He starred alongside Zelwegger again in Miss Potter in 2006. Upcoming roles include Cassandra's Dream, The Tourist and Agent Crush. He is slated to appear in I, Lucifer, Franklyn, Number 13 and The Great Pretender
