Evil Twin

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

The plot device of giving a character an evil twin has been extensively used in science fiction and fantasy series. It typically involves the same actor playing two roles, and allows them to do things in the show that would normally be out of character (which is why the secondary character is almost always evil).

There is usually some way to tell the two apart, such as them having different hair color. However, the evil twin often impersonates the good twin, typically causing disruptions in the main character's work or social life. Good finds a way to triumph, until the next time.

The characters don't need to actually be siblings. They may be cousins, or one could even be an android.

Examples

Series: Bewitched

Blonde Samantha Stephens (the good twin) is a somewhat typical suburban housewife (even though she is a witch). Serena (the bad twin), her brunette cousin, is into the groovy rock-and-roll lifestyle. She also has a beauty mark which changes its shape into different things in different episodes (such as a dollar sign or the female gender symbol). Both were portrayed by Elizabeth Montgomery.

Series: I Dream of Jeannie

Blonde Jeannie (the good twin) has the desire to be a somewhat typical suburban housewife (and eventually marries Major Nelson). Jeannie, her brunette sister, was much wilder. Both were played by Barbara Eden.
