Everlost is a 2006 young adult novel by Neal Shusterman. The novel explores what happens after you die.
Synopsis
Nick and Allie did not survive the car accident but their souls didn't wind up where they should have. Instead, their caught in the in between in a place known as Everlost. Everlost is a shadowy world filled with things and places that no longer exist and lost children who run wild. Anyone who stands in one place too long, sinks to the center of the Earth.
Nick and Allie run into another child, Mary, the self proclaimed queen of the lost children and Nick begins to feel like he's found a home. Allie is not satisfied with the idea of spending an eternity in Everlost. She defies warnings and begins to explore the "criminal art" of haunting, wandering into territories where a monster known as the McGill roams and is a danger to every soul in Everlost.
