Eva Mendes (March 5), 1974) is an American actress of Cuban heritage. She was born in Miami, Florida and raised in Los Angeles. She attended Hoover High School in Glendale, California and later attended Northridge University where she studied marketing. She dropped out to pursue a career in acting. She studied with acting coach Ivana Chubbuck.
Career
Mendes appeared in commercials and music videos before graduating to television and film roles. She guest-starred on ER and appeared in Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror, A Night at the Roxbury , Mortal Kombat: Conquest which also starred Kristanna Loken and Urban Legends: Final Cut.
Mendes' breakout role came in 2001 as the girlfriend of Denzel Washington's character in Training Day. She followed up with All About the Benjamins, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Out of Time also with Denzel Washington. In 2005 she starred in Hitch with Will Smith, The Wendell Baker Story and 3 & 3.
In 2007, Mendes starred as Roxanne Simpson in Ghost Rider and followed up with the crime thriller We Own the Night. In 2008 she completed the film, The Spirit based on the slasic comic series. In the film she plays Sand Saref alongside Gabriel Macht, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson.
