Eureka is an original series from the SCI FI Channel, a drama about a seemingly ordinary town whose residents lead extraordinary lives. Nestled in the Pacific Northwest, the picturesque hamlet of Eureka is shrouded in secrecy. It is actually a community of scientific geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research.
The first Season was executive-produced by Andrew Cosby (Haunted) and co-executive-produced by Jamie Paglia. Cosby stood down as Executive Producer for the Second Season.
A notable casting for the Second Season would be the casting of Olivia d'Abo as Abby Carter. According to VisitEureka.net, Season 2 will include an arc involving Abby Carter, who is the wife of Jack Carter (they are now separated). The character will be introduced in the third episode of the Second Season, which premieres in July on SCI FI Channel.
A (Confidential) Town History
As World War II came to a close with mushroom clouds over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the impact that science and technology would have on the continued security of our world became catastrophically apparent. America nearly lost the race to build the atomic bomb; it could not risk such a close call again.
With the help of Albert Einstein and other trusted advisors, President Harry S. Truman commissioned a top-secret residential development in a remote area of the Pacific Northwest, one that would serve to protect and nurture America's most valuable intellectual resources. There our nation's greatest thinkers, the über-geniuses working on the next era of scientific achievement, would be able to live and work in a supportive environment. The best architects and planners were commissioned to design a welcoming place for these superlative geniuses to reside, an area that would offer the best education for their children, the best health care, the best amenities and quality of life. A community was created to rival the most idyllic of America's small towns—with one major difference: this town would never appear on any maps. At least, none that haven't been classified "eyes only" by the Pentagon.
Thus, the town of Eureka was born. But for all its familiar, small-town trappings, things in this secret hamlet are anything but ordinary. The stereotype of the absent-minded professor exists for a reason, and most of the quantum leaps in science and technology during the past 50 years were produced by Eureka's elite researchers. Unfortunately, scientific exploration is rarely what one expects, and years of experiments gone awry have yielded some peculiar by-products.
From unrequited love to professional jealousy, from addiction to depression, the problems of Eureka's townsfolk stem from life's myriad of everyday challenges. But with the population's unique talents, troubled psyches, and limitless resources, these small-town concerns have a way of becoming big-time problems. It is at that intersection, where human frailty and super-science collide, that Eureka begins.
Characters
Jack Carter
U.S. Marshall Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) is sharp and charming, with a quick wit and a street-smart edge. Dedicated first and foremost to his career, a recent separation from his wife has left him at odds with his teenage daughter, Zoe, whose brushes with the law keep Carter nearly as busy as his day job. In fact, Zoe's latest escapade has Carter transporting her home in his custody when their car crashes outside the town of Eureka.
Allison Blake
Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), the government liaison between Eureka and the Pentagon, provides Jack Carter with a steady flow of professional and romantic frustrations. Charged with reporting on the progress of Eureka's citizens as well as their temperamental innovations, Allison grapples with an endless stream of crises and moral dilemmas.
Beverly Barlowe
A brilliant psychotherapist, Beverly Barlowe (Debrah Farentino) has clients that include international dignitaries, celebrities and even heads of state. Now she lends her highly trained ear to Eureka's troubled psyches—and has come to learn all of the town's most intimate secrets. Beverly's undeniable sex appeal is not lost on Jack Carter, who finds her a force to be reckoned with—and one who might be hiding a few secrets of her own.
Henry Deacon
Henry Deacon (Joe Morton) is a true jack-of-all-trades. Masquerading as the local mechanic, his feats of engineering are a constant source of wonder and amusement. Whether outfitting Eureka's police cruisers with the latest and greatest gadgets or inventing a global air-conditioning system, Henry has the keen ability to figure out the mechanics of nearly any contraption. So why is Henry such a dedicated do-gooder? Perhaps he sees his work in Eureka as a chance to redeem himself for the sins of a mysterious and complicated past.
Zoe Carter
Zoe Carter (Jordan Hinson) is Jack Carter's defiant, delinquent, and also terribly intelligent daughter. Though Zoe tries to keep up her "riot grrrl" image, behind her attitude and piercings she's just another young woman who wants her absentee father to pay her some attention. And what's the best way to attract a cop's attention? Consistently put oneself at odds with the law—something that Zoe has become quite adept at doing. But in truth, reuniting her divorced parents is her ultimate goal—a factor that makes dating a difficult prospect for Carter.
Nathan Stark
Nathan Stark (Ed Quinn) is a Nobel-prize winning mathematician, Eureka's head researcher and Allison Blake's estranged husband. Charming to a fault and keenly brilliant, he gives Jack Carter a run for his money in the contest for Allison's romantic interest, but Stark's professional desire to push the boundaries of science eventually compromise his personal integrity. Stark is still in love with Allison, which explains why he has not yet granted her a divorce. Carter's arrival in "his town" and budding relationship with Allison sets up Stark as Carter's bitter rival.
Josefina Lupo
Josefina "Jo" Lupo (Erica Cerra) is Eureka's deputy sheriff, a New Jersey girl and former U.S. Army Ranger. The eccentric residents of Eureka try her patience, but they've grown accustomed to her bluster and appreciate her dedication to their safety. At first, Jo is resentful of having to report to an outsider when Jack Carter is given the sheriff's job, but she comes to gain respect for his talents and becomes his trusted partner in maintaining the peace. Now, if only her personal life could be as rewarding.
Jim Taggart
Jim Taggart (Matt Frewer) is Eureka's "biological containment specialist." If it walks, talks, eats, breathes, or bleeds, it falls within Taggart's domain. A big brute of an Aussie (or so he claims), Taggart often butts heads with the sheriff and townsfolk who refuse to appreciate the delicate and unique wildlife situation in Eureka. Luckily for Carter, Taggart knows every breed of animal, bird, and insect like the back of his hand—and he's got the tools to handle any situation.
