Erick Avari

Erick Avari is an actor of British and Indian descent best known for his role as Kasuf in the Stargate movie and TV series, Stargate SG-1. He was born on April 13, 1952 and spent much of his childhood in the Northern Indian town of Darjeeling where he learned to communicate in Nepali, Bengali, Hindi and Gujarati. His father was once the Chief Game Warden of the West Bengal Forests and many of his friends visited the family while enjoying the surrounding jungles.

Avari was introduced to film early, as both parents came from families that owned movie theaters throughout India. His maternal great grandfather produced films in the 19th century. Growing up, Avari watched movies regularly in English, Hindi and Bengali.

Career

Avari attended college in India before winning a scholarship to the College of Charleston in South Carolina. He then worked on stage before breaking into film. His stage appearances include 'Tis a Pity She's a Whore, The King and I, King Lear and The mormon Project.

Avari has racked up an impressive lists of credits on both the big screen and television. Early roles include the Bengali film Kanchenjungha, The Beast of War, True Blue and guest appearances on Murphy Brown, and L.A. Law. He also guest starred on such popular series as The X-Files, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Babylon 5 as Rabbi Leo Meyers.

Avari is one of only two actors from the 1994 Stargate film to reprise his role in the series. He has also had roles in the films The 13th Warrior, Independence Day, The Mummy, The Glass House , Daredevil and Planet of the Apes (2001 movie).

In 2006 he appeared in the hit NBC series Heroes as Dr. Chandra Suresh. Other roles include The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines, Postal, Dark Matter, Plane Dead, AmericanEast and Charlie Wilson's War.
