Emma Bull (b. January 3, 1954) is an American science fiction and fantasy writer. Born in Torrance, California, Bull was a long-time resident of the Minneapolis area, the setting of her best-known early novels.
Her first novel, War for the Oaks (1987), is a seminal urban fantasy that sets a battle between rival powers of Elfland against the vibrant backdrop of the Minneapolis rock music scene of the 1980s.
Bull's third novel, Bone Dance (1991), set in a post-apocalyptic Minneapolis, was nominated for the Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy Awards.
Bull's other novels include Falcon (1989) and Finder (1994), and she co-wrote Freedom and Necessity with Steven Brust (1997).
Bull and her husband Will Shetterly edited the five-volume Liavek shared world anthologies. Their short fiction was collected in the NESFA Press volume Double Feature (1995).
She has also written two books for young children, The Princess and the Lord of Night (1994) and Silver or Gold (1996).
Bull and Shetterly live in Arizona.
