Emissary, Part 1 is the premier episode of the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The series is the third Trek series and focuses on the former Cardassian space station now run by the Federation on behalf of the people of Bajor, Deep Space Nine. Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) assumes command of the station with Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor) is his Bajoran liaison. Rene Auberjonois] playes shape shifting security officer Odo. Rounding out the cast are Alexander Siddig as Doctor Alexander Bashir, Terry Farrell as science officer Lt. Jadzia Dax, Cirroc Lofton as Jake Sisko , Colm Meaney as engineer Chief Miles O'Brien and Armin Shimmerman as Ferengi bartender Quark.

Summary

Starfleet officer Commander Benjamin Sisko takes command of a space station built by the Cardassians and taken over by the Bajorans following a brutal occupation of their planet by the Cardassians. He learns the station rests near to the opening of a wormhole that leads to the Gamma Quadrant. When he meets with Bajoran religious leader, Kai Opaka, she declares that he is the prophesied emissary of the Prophets. She encourages him to find the Celestial Temple before the Cardassians do.
