Emile Davenport Hirsch (b. March 13, 1985, Palms, California) is an American actor. Born to an artist and film producer, Hirsch grew up in Los Angeles and New Mexico. He attended the The Hamilton Academy of Music and The Performing Arts in Los Angeles. He made his television and genre debut in Kindred: The Embraced and followed up with appearances on 3rd Rock from the Sun, Early Edition, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and The Pretender.
Hirsch transitioned to films after his 2001 appearance in the TV movie Wild Iris. He has made appearances in The Emperor's Club with Kevin Kline, The Girl Next Door alongside Elisha Cuthbert, The Air I Breathe with Kevin Bacon and Brendan Fraser, and, in 2007, a prominent role in the Academy Award-nominated film Into the Wild directed by Sean Penn.
In 2008, Hirsch appears in his first significant action role starring as Speed in the film Speed Racer. He also worked with Sean Penn again and James Franco in the film Milk.
