Eli Stone is an ABC television series created by Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti. The series centers on mercenary lawyer Eli Stone (Jonny Lee Miller) who begins to have visual and auditory hallucinations of pop stars. An MRI reveals an aneurysm but Eli believes the visions are guiding him to a higher calling and decides to change his approach to law.

Season 1

During the series' first season, Eli begins having visual and auditory hallucinations of George Michael. A visit to his brother, medical doctor, Nathan (Matt Letscher), reveals the presence of an aneurysm in his brain. Eli later learns his father had a similar problem that led him to drink heavily and played a part in his death.

With the assistance of acupuncturist, Dr. Chen (James Saito), Eli begins to accept that his visions may serve a higher purpose as they seem to connect to people who need his help as a lawyer. Unfortunately, this sudden and disturbing change in the way he practices law causes concern, particularly from his boss and father-in-law-to-be Jordan Wethersby (Victor Garber). His decision to hide his condition from Jordan almost causes him to lose his job, his ability to practice law, and he loses Jordan's friendship and respect.

With the possibility of death looming at any moment, Eli break up with Jordan's daughter, fiancee Taylor Wethersby (Natasha Henstridge) despite her willingness to stand by him. He develops an interest in junior lawyer Maggie Dekker (Julie Gonzalo) whose assistance becomes increasingly necessary first at her own request and eventually because of his demotion and inability to try cases on his own and thereby risk a malpractice suit.

When one of his prophecies fails to come true and proves devastating for his secretary Patti's (Loretta Devine) friends and neighbors, he alienates her and loses confidence in the idea that his visions are more than mere delusions. Eli decides to risk death and disability for a highly risky surgery to remove the aneurysm. Though his prophecy of a devastating earthquake vindicates him and Jordan's trust in him, Eli decides to go through with the surgery and complications nearly cost him his life.
