Eddie Murphy (b. April 3, 1961, Brooklyn, New York) is an American actor, producer, writer and former stand-up comedian famous for his roles in hit comedies such as Coming to America, Trading Places and the Beverly Hills Cop series. Murphy has also appeared in a number of genre films beginning with The Golden Child in 1986 and following up with Vampire in Brooklyn and the hit comedies The Nutty Professor, and its sequel Nutty Professor II: The Klumps and Doctor Dolittle. His recent ventures have not all been big hits Doctor Dolittle 2, The Adventures of Pluto Nash and the Haunted Mansion did not meet with the level of success he attained with other ventures. However, Murphy more than compensated with his roles in the hit animated film Shrek in which he voiced Shrek's sidekick Donkey, and its sequels Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third. Murphy was nominated for an Academy Award in 2007 for his role in the hit film Dreamgirls.
Upcoming films include Starship Dave, Nowhereland, Beverly Hills Cop IV and the fourth film in the Shrek film franchise.
