Earth

<span class="SFPTagline"> From SCIFIPEDIA </span>

Earth is the third planet from the sun. It is the fifth largest planet in its solar system, and the most dense. It is the only planet in the system known to be capable of supporting life.

Earth's atmosphere and magnetic field provide a shield against much of the harmful radiation coming from solar bodies. Its atmosphere also protects its inhabitants from meteors, most of which burn up before they can strike the surface. Sometimes it gets by with a little help from its friends (Armageddon, (1998)).

The most common alternate name for the planet in science fiction is, "Terra."
